Patni

Brand Value I heard that Patni has good brand value

Career growth and onsite opportunities? one among top 3 IT companies in this regard

How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? In general work environment is informal and good, however it depends on the kind of project and PM J.

Work pressure/Work – life balance. Pressure… Again…depends on project. I would say not very much different from other IT companies. Work - Life balance – one can achieve it if he/she is very serious about it

Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Salary – Its not on par with market value. An exception is that appraisals in 2007 have been very good.

Quality of work – depends on the domain, kind of project(development/maintenance/support).Patni has mostly maintenance projects.

What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? Not sure about exact percent but basically Patni is into Services. May be a bit of product development stuff.

Job security. Better than any other IT company in India.

Some positives and negatives of the company.
+ves - Job Security, Onsite opportunities, Good responsibilities at an early stage in one’s career, robust processes, Good Training Programs
-ves - SALARY, Not enough transparency into appraisal process, recruitment process not rigid(no where do you find a required % of 55 for freshers J)

IF you are not keen about money Patni is the place for you.

Review on Patni by Parul Jain
Brand Value There is good brand recall in Market for Patni. I am not aware of any Marketing campaigns or corporate sponsorship programs that PCS conducts to promote their brand. In Mumbai atleast the huge transport fleet operating does a good job creating awareness about Brand PCS as a BIG Company.
Career growth and onsite opportunities? There are many Onsite Oppurtunities presented as it is has business spread all over world. It depends on demand within a project and new projects that the company gets.
Career Growth is linked with attrition as one is loaded with responsibility and ownership pretty early.Their are also multiple tracks available like Technical,Techno Functional,Solution Architect etc which one can identify with and follow.
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department?
Work Environment depends a lot on manager that one gets so it shall vary on case to case basis. I have had good as well as bad experiences so cannot generalize work environment. Communications between teams is better than between departments but some amount of perseverance pushes things along between departments.
Work pressure/Work – life balance. It depends again Managers/Superiors in the Project. Correct Project Estimations also are important. Wrong estimations or frequent client design change request can add to pressure .
Satisfaction with salary and quality of work. Compensation is not upto Industry standards. Work Quality is generally good as one gets to work on challenging projects rather than get stuck onto repetitive work for years.
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Or if mix of these then what at percent? There is a Product Enables Services vertical which has 25% of workforce and contributes 10% of company revenue. But it is a Service Provider company.
Job security. Job Security is very High. However incompetent a person is he/she is absorbed in some role but never asked to leave.
Some positives and negatives of the company.
Positives :-
1) Early exposure to Roles/Responsibilities .
2) Onsite Oppurtunities Option.
Negatives:-
1) Salary Component
2) Transparency at managerial level.
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why?
Would recommend to freshers as one gets to learn a lot in start of career. They would have to compromise on salary front but money shall flow in later as time spent out here is well rewarded in job market.

Patni

The old daddy of Indian IT companies where Narayan Murthy learnt the tricks of the trade was left behind when the liberalized Indian economy gave rise to likes of Infy and Wipro. True, its difficult to change when you are big. One another fact is Patni’s over dependence on a single client GE. GE still counts for a bulk of its revenue. The future is bright for IT companies and so for Patni.
Krishnanand Shenai takes us through the review of Patni.
Salary, Satisfaction with salary and quality of work: Patni pays a salary of 1.68 to fresh engineers. Salary is and shall be always below par than industry standards. There’s lots of Quantity and Quality of work for any employee, wont sit on Bench for long time.
Career growth and onsite opportunities: Career growth depends upon BU (Business Unit). Good if you are in COE (Center of Excellence), since less number of people. Bad if you are in a large Project. Onsite opportunities, depends upon your relation with your PM (Project Manager). A bit biased.
Brand Value: Market value is good, not too great. Non-IT people do feel PATNI is a huge company. IT guys know what’s the real truth
How is work environment and how efficient is the communication b/w teams or department? Work Environment is good. PC and other facilities are ok type not too great. Communication between department/BU is below average. Ball game is played out here
Work pressure/Work – life balance: Work pressure and life balance depends upon your project. But work in GE is bad. Should strictly not work for GE.
What type of work they do: Product development, Services etc. Don’t know exactly! But I guess it’s a mix bag.
Job security: Job security is 100% percent
Some positives and negatives of the company
Positives: Transportation is available at any point of time.
Negatives: Admin/Security guys are selfish/arrogant. Salary is below par.
Do you recommend your company to others? Yes or No and Why? : Strictly no to freshers, But experienced people can try their luck
