Placement Statistics IIT Kharagpur

The following chart shows placement statistics for different courses in IIT Kharagpur, namely,
B.Tech
M.Sc.
M.Tech
Dual MT.
B.Arch
MS
MCP
MBM
PGDIT

The placement statistics for last year would be much better as placement situation has improved in colleges everywhere owing to increased demand from IT sector.
One more fact, which deserves mention, is some master’s courses are dual degree (admission through JEE), and for some M.Sc courses there are separate entrance exams (JAM). It would be unfair to compare the placement of M.Sc guys with B.Tech, as candidates will have different backgrounds. JEE rank definitely gives edge as far as some (read good paymasters) companies are concerned.

Placement at IIT B Mechanical

IIT B always has an edge in campus placements because of location. Bombay being an international city gives IIT B the opportunity to bring companies, which may not visit other IITs. As a matter of fact IIT B had the international placements much before the so-called media focus came on placement at IITs and IIMs.

This is an incomplete list of placement at 2005 IIT B Mechanical branch. The diversity of companies is amazing (impressive).

Placement at Offbeat Branches

Placement at IITs generates a lot of media hype; but the picture they paint of placement at IITs is incorrect. Websites like rediff.com, which unfortunately have a good reach, don’t have well researched articles. The number of candidates getting international jobs at IITs may be well below 4 %. But I am not surprised when wannabe IITians have the impression that everyone in IITs get a 25-lakh rupee job.

We would be bringing to you the real campus placement statistics at colleges with a special focus on non-computer science branches.

To start with we go to placement at Department of Paper Technology, IIT Roorkee, this branch is an offbeat branch. It may figure last on the list of anyone going for engineering job.

The placement figure does not indicate real aspirations of the students as these days the placement at IITs starts after 7th semester or half of fourth year is over. By that time, GRE score/ CAT is out/over so guys going to Stanford/ IIMs may not push themselves hard for the job (some may miss the placement altogether). The idea of having a job just for backup does not motivate you to be selective.
